Equine QR: Scannable QR Code System for Product Traceability

Founded by horse owners and riders, Equine QR® focuses on equine welfare and safety. The brand’s QR-coded products give instant access to critical information about horses and riders, making it easy for caretakers and medical staff to provide informed care, even in emergencies.

The client struggled with a fragmented system that lacked the precision needed for high-stakes safety and product tracking. Their primary hurdle was the inability of standard software to generate unique, customisable URN numbers for every item, alongside a requirement for specialised QR codes that standard generators couldn't produce due to strict size and formatting constraints.

Beyond the technical limitations, the business faced a critical safety gap: they needed a way to guarantee absolute product traceability and authenticity. The goal was to ensure that a simple scan would provide immediate, life-saving access to vital horse and rider information—a level of reliability and instant data retrieval that their existing manual processes simply could not support.

To address these technical gaps, we engineered a secure, scalable system centered on a bespoke URN and QR generation engine. We implemented time-based, alphabetical sequencing with custom suffix formatting to ensure every product receives a unique, non-duplicable identifier. To meet the client's strict physical requirements, we developed a custom QR generator from scratch, allowing for precise control over size, layout, and resolution that off-the-shelf tools could not provide.

The core of the platform is built on dynamic data architecture, where each QR code links to a flexible product page. This allows the client to update vital horse and rider information in real-time without ever needing to reprint or change the physical QR code on the product. All of this is managed via a centralised Admin Panel, a streamlined interface that automates the generation of codes and gives the client total control over product management and data updates.

The implementation of this custom system has successfully transformed a complex manual requirement into a fully automated, scalable operation. By automating the URN and QR code generation, we eliminated the risk of duplication and manual error, allowing the client to scale their production effortlessly. Every QR code now perfectly meets the exact size and formatting constraints required for their hardware, ensuring 100% scan accuracy and functional reliability in the field.

Beyond the technical output, the platform has drastically improved product traceability and authenticity.
